I am interested in exploring how American literature (and culture at large) has defined monsters through sociocultural and ideological differences. My main focus is on horror media and speculative fiction and their reflections of societal anxieties, specifically constructions of race, gender, and sexuality. I am also interested in examining how the horror genre is used to establish autonomy, both bodily and spiritual.
