Climate Leadership Network signatories are colleges and universities taking action on climate change and preparing students through research and education. As a signatory of the Climate Commitment, CMU has pledged to continue to work toward the goal of Carbon neutrality – or net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.

Emissions from Scope 1, 2, and 3 sources are measured, translated into metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, and reported using the Second Nature and GHG Protocol methodology. CMU's Pittsburgh campus has already reduced emissions by more than 72% in comparison to the 2005 baseline.
