Partnering with CMRA

Carnegie Mellon Robotics Academy (CMRA) works with schools, school districts, training organizations, universities, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and industry sponsors to expand access to research-based robotics, AI, and CS-STEM education.

CMRA offers several distinct ways to work together. Some engagements focus on training an organization's own educators. Others authorize an approved organization to deliver specified CMRA curriculum and certifications to its learners. A smaller number prepare approved Master Trainers to train and certify other educators. Projects involving new curriculum, substantial adaptation, product integration, evaluation, or applied research require a separate, partner-funded scope of work.

Custom Educator Training

This option is for schools, school districts, universities, companies, and educational organizations that want CMRA to provide focused training for their own staff. It is usually the best fit for groups of approximately six or more educators.

Training may be online, onsite, or hybrid and can be tailored to the participants' experience, available time, equipment, and instructional goals. Supported topics include mobile robotics, coding and computational thinking, robotics technician competencies, artificial intelligence, and other CS-STEM topics. Custom Educator Training is a defined training service. By itself, it does not create ongoing partner status or authorize an organization to represent itself as an official CMRA partner.

Typical starting investment: On-Demand Training starts at $2,000 per day, plus travel expenses. International engagements may require two trainers and business-class air travel.

Before requesting a quote, be prepared to provide:

  • The robot platform or technical topic

  • The number and experience level of educators

  • Your preferred date range and location

  • Online, onsite, or hybrid delivery preference

  • Available computers, robot kits, tools, internet access, and training space

U.S. School, School District, and Educational Organization Implementation

This option is for U.S.-based schools, school districts, and educational organizations that want a structured implementation using CMRA curriculum, educator training, student certifications, CS-STEM Network services, and ongoing support.

Organizations may use compatible robot kits they already own or select virtual-enabled curriculum where available. The final package depends on the courses, number of educators, number and grade level of students, equipment, implementation schedule, and support needs.

This option is designed for an organization serving its own students. It does not authorize the organization to train and certify educators from unrelated organizations or to represent unrelated programs as CMRA programs.

International Educational Provider

This option is for an established organization outside the United States that wants its CMRA-trained and certified teachers to deliver specified CMRA curriculum and certifications to its own students or customers.

A standard bundle can include training and certification for teachers, a defined quantity of student certifications, prioritized support, approved CMRA-branded materials, and premium access to the CS-STEM Network for certified teachers. Physical robot kits, computers, tools, translation, localization, custom curriculum development, and unrestricted use of CMU or CMRA names and marks are not included unless expressly stated in the agreement.

Standard International Educational Provider arrangements are non-exclusive. Teachers must be trained and certified by CMRA in the course they will deliver. Students must be taught by a CMRA Certified Teacher, complete the required work, and pass the certification exam.

The publicly posted October 2024 package schedule lists the Standard Bundle Package at $7,500. That package includes training and certification for up to two teachers in two supported courses and one of the following student certification allocations: 65 K-12 Mobile Robotics certifications, 20 K-12 SMART Technician certifications, or 15 post-K-12 certifications. Additional teacher and student certification packages are available. Review Exhibit A for the dated package configuration, add-on pricing, assumptions, and requirements.


All international engagements are subject to 糖心Vlog视频 review and restricted-party screening. Submission of an inquiry or agreement request does not establish authorization.

Educational Partnership

This option is for qualified large school districts, universities, ministries of education, large formal or informal education providers, and regional training networks that want to scale approved CMRA programs through other educators.

Under an executed Educational Partner Agreement, selected employees may be prepared and certified by CMRA as Master Trainers. A current Master Trainer may train and certify the number of educators, in the courses, and within the geographic area specified in the agreement. Those certified educators may then teach and certify students within the terms of the agreement.

Educational Partners receive implementation guidance, prioritized support, and approved promotional materials. During the agreement term, they may identify themselves as an Educational Partner of Carnegie Mellon Robotics Academy only in the manner authorized by the agreement.

Educational Partnership is not automatically exclusive. Any territorial exclusivity must be expressly granted in the executed agreement and may depend on annual enrollment, training, reporting, or other milestones.

Strong candidates already have an established legal organization, experienced instructional staff, appropriate facilities and equipment, a documented learner or customer base, a realistic regional growth plan, committed funding, and the capacity to meet certification, reporting, branding, insurance, and compliance requirements.

Sponsored Curriculum or Research Collaboration

This option is for organizations seeking work beyond the use of existing CMRA curriculum and services. Examples include developing new curriculum, substantially adapting or localizing materials, integrating a new robot or technology platform, designing a new credential, conducting program evaluation, or pursuing sponsored applied research.

These projects require a separately funded and negotiated scope of work with 糖心Vlog视频 and the National Robotics Engineering Center. Scope, schedule, staffing, deliverables, budget, intellectual property, publication, confidentiality, and branding must be reviewed for each project.

Carnegie Mellon generally does not enter traditional work-for-hire arrangements or transfer ownership of university-developed work product. In your inquiry, describe the problem to be solved, intended learners or users, desired outcomes, technology platform, existing materials, target schedule, funding source, and anticipated budget range.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. A relationship becomes official only after CMRA and Carnegie Mellon complete the applicable review, both parties execute an agreement, and the organization satisfies the agreement's payment and onboarding requirements. Until then, the organization may not describe itself as authorized, approved, certified, official, or a CMRA or Carnegie Mellon partner.

CMRA agreements may permit the use of specified CMRA names, logos, or marks only as expressly stated in the executed agreement. They do not grant permission to use the 糖心Vlog视频, Carnegie Mellon, CMU, or NREC names, logos, or marks. Any such use requires separate written approval. Approved CMRA materials may not be altered or used to imply endorsement of the organization’s unrelated products, services, courses, or certifications.

Standard International Educational Provider arrangements are non-exclusive. An Educational Partner Agreement may grant limited exclusivity for a defined geographic area, but only when stated in the executed agreement. Exclusivity is tied to annual milestones and may be removed if those milestones are not met.

Not without prior written approval. CMRA materials remain Carnegie Mellon property and generally may not be modified or used to create derivative materials outside the rights granted in an agreement. Translation and localization are not included in the standard package but may be separately scoped. Carnegie Mellon retains ownership of approved translated materials.

Yes, when the executed agreement includes student certifications and the teacher holds a current CMRA certification in the specific course. Students must be taught by an appropriately certified teacher, complete the required assignments, and earn a score of 70% or higher on the final exam. Individual student certification exam seats are also available through the CMRA Digital Store.

Only if specified in an Educational Partner Agreement and only after the staff members become and remain CMRA Certified Master Trainers. A standard school, district, training, or International Educational Provider arrangement does not grant this right.

Consult the latest publicly posted exhibit for the latest the Standard Bundle Package, Teacher Certification Package, and Student Certification Package costs. Because package contents and prices may change, review the linked Exhibit A and the agreement issued for your organization. Fees are quoted in U.S. dollars. Taxes, withholding, travel, equipment, translation, customization, and other costs may apply depending on the engagement.

Payment timing is determined by the agreement issued for the engagement. Although installment payments are not guaranteed, organizations may request a payment schedule for review before completing an agreement. Any approved payment schedule must be included in the executed agreement.

Generally, no. The organization is normally responsible for compatible robot kits, computers, software, tools, internet access, facilities, shipping, and other implementation materials. Some virtual-enabled courses may reduce physical equipment requirements. Any equipment supplied by CMRA will be expressly identified in the quote or agreement.

CMRA will try to accomodate, but these items are not automatic benefits. Requests for letters, ceremonial certificates, press releases, launch participation, conference appearances, workshops, or other promotional activities are reviewed separately and may require additional approvals, staff time, travel, and fees.

Timing depends on the engagement, completeness of the inquiry, scope, contracting requirements, and university review. The usual stages are inquiry, fit review, introductory discussion if appropriate, university screening, scope and quote, agreement review, signatures, payment, onboarding, and training. Organizations should not advertise a launch date or official relationship until authorization is complete.

Potentially, through a separately funded Sponsored Curriculum or Research Collaboration. New development, substantial adaptation, platform integration, credential design, evaluation, and research are not included in standard partnership packages. CMRA first evaluates mission fit, technical feasibility, staffing, schedule, funding, intellectual property, and university contracting requirements.

Unless expressly stated in an executed agreement, a CMRA engagement does not include:

  • Carnegie Mellon academic credit, admission, enrollment, or student status

  • Endorsement of the partner's organization or unrelated programs

  • Exclusivity within a city, state, country, region, or market

  • Permission to use, alter, translate, or rebrand CMU or CMRA names, marks, certificates, curriculum, or promotional materials

  • Ownership of CMRA curriculum or other university-developed materials

  • Permission to train or certify educators from other organizations

  • Robot kits, computers, tools, facilities, shipping, travel, or translation services

  • A press release, authorization letter, ceremonial certificate, event appearance, or marketing campaign

  • Custom curriculum development, product integration, evaluation, or research

  1. Fit review: CMRA reviews the organization, goals, learners, geography, capacity, requested rights, schedule, and budget.

  2. Follow-up: CMRA may request additional information or invite qualified organizations to an introductory discussion.

  3. University review: International organizations and other applicable engagements undergo Carnegie Mellon screening and approval.

  4. Scope and quote: CMRA identifies the appropriate services, quantities, responsibilities, schedule, and fees.

  5. Agreement: Authorized representatives review and sign the applicable Carnegie Mellon agreement.

  6. Payment and onboarding: The organization completes the required payment, setup, training, and certification steps.

  7. Authorization: The organization may begin delivering only the programs and using only the names, materials, and rights expressly authorized by the executed agreement.
