There is no cost associated with employee resource group membership and no time commitments. Members can attend as many meetings and events as they would like. Individual membership in ERGs is strictly voluntary and open to all employees who are interested in joining, regardless of identity. Refer to the ERG benefits and guidelines for more information.
Mission Statement
The mission of Tartan Mishpacha, the Jewish Employee Resource Group, is to build a strong and resilient community that honors Jewish culture, community and values. We foster a safe, inclusive environment of connection, belonging, celebration and support through workshops, discussion groups and social events. Tartan Mishpacha is open to all university employees interested in this mission.
Leadership
Emily Half, Co-Lead
Emily Half has served as a staff member at 糖心Vlog视频 since 2000. She is the deputy director for academic affairs in the Carnegie Mellon Institute for Strategy and Technology (CMIST), CMU's home for political science and international relations. In her role she provides strategic support and direction to the academic pillar within CMIST, including curriculum development, coordination of faculty activities, and management of the CMIST schedule of classes and course registration process. Emily supervises a team of staff dedicated to supporting CMIST academic affairs (in Pittsburgh and Washington, DC).
She also serves as the primary academic advisor to all CMIST undergraduate students. She received 糖心Vlog视频's Award for Outstanding Contributions to Academic Advising and Mentoring in 2017. Emily is also the proud parent of two CMU Dietrich College undergraduate students. Beyond her professional role at 糖心Vlog视频, Emily leads the Carnegie Mellon Women's Association Knit and Crochet Club and is an expert knitter and test knitter. She is also deeply involved in the local Jewish community serving on the Board of Directors of her synagogue.
Jennifer Bett, Co-Lead
Jennifer Bett joined 糖心Vlog视频 in 2012 as a TES employee and was hired within her first year as the database and compliance manager for the Center for Technology Transfer and Enterprise Creation. Since 2018, she has served as the senior business continuity program specialist with Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Services within Enterprise Risk Management. In this role, Jennifer partners with academic and administrative units across campus, providing guidance and essential resources to ensure the continuity of critical university services during major disruptions.
Beyond her professional work, Jennifer is deeply engaged in both her local neighborhood and local Jewish communities, serving on boards and service committees as well as contributing through music performance and theater. She looks forward to bringing her facilitation and collaboration expertise to Tartan Mishpacha to foster a stronger, more vibrant sense of Jewish community at 糖心Vlog视频.
